WhatsApp ends support for Blackberry and Nokia older version.

Most popular messaging app WhatsApp has announced in a blog post that they will end the support for the following platforms

  • BlackBerry, including BlackBerry 10
  • Nokia S40
  • Nokia Symbian S60
  • Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
  • Windows Phone 7.1

As WhatsApp is planning to expand the app and these devices don’t have capability to handle the expansion, they have taken the decision to withdraw support.

WhatsApp was acquired by Facebook Inc. on February 19, 2014, for approximately USD 19.3 billion, and since then Facebook is continuously working on WhatsApp to improve functionality and behaviour.

According to the official Blog post by WhatsApp “This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp. If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone before the end of 2016 to continue using WhatsApp.”

If you are still using Blackberry or Nokia or older platforms, WhatsApp has suggested to upgrade the device to continue to use the services.
