Today, in an official blogpost Snapchat apologized to his staff after a scam tricked the Payroll department of Snapchat and HR executive handed over the Employee Payroll data to the scammer including current and former employees.
Data leakage is one of the major threat nowadays and especially for the companies which is in his early days.
On Friday, Snapchat experienced the same and the “Employee” data was leaked by one of the HR department executive. The executive responded to a phishing scam email with employee Payroll information.
Snapchat confirmed, that his system was not breached and user data is safe.
They said in a blogpost “When something like this happens, all you can do is own up to your mistake, take care of the people affected, and learn from what went wrong,”.
Snapchat has already reported the incident to FBI and is in touch with his old and current employees. Snapchat has offered two years of free identity-theft insurance and monitoring.
In an Interview, Jonathan Sander, VP of Product Strategy at Lieberman Software, said:
“The fact that Snapchat got snagged with this shows that being young, cool, and high tech doesn’t protect you from being a phishing target. Bad guys are getting so good at phishing that they aren’t just fooling that older relative who calls a grandchild every time they need to print something.
