What are the SEO trends in 2017?

1. Mobile search

We are living in a mobile-first world. Since you wake up, till you go to bed, you check your smartphone multiple times. It can be your emails, social media, chats, alarm, reminder or can be anything else.

In last few year, mobile has changed the way search engine look at them. Remember Mobilegeddon?

A few months ago, Google said, “To improve the mobile search experience, after January 10, 2017, pages where content is not easily accessible to a user on the transition from the mobile search results may not rank as highly.”seo trends in 2017

Statcounter, a research company that tracks internet use across 2.5m websites, said 51.3pc of pages were loaded on mobile devices in October, the first time they have surpassed desktop and laptop computers.

So, in 2017, separate your desktop and mobile measurement plans to account for the fundamental differences between mobile and desktop behavior.

2. Google’s Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP)

Google AMP needs no introduction now. It delivers content to mobile users in a blink of an eye. Though Google says, AMP pages are not yet ranking signal, we know, fast loading pages are always preferred in Google search. So why not to use it?

Publishers who already switched to AMP, have experienced a better user experience. These factors impact SEO in the direct or indirect way. So we assume, AMP is going to be more and more strong in 2017.

3. Google’s Mobile-First Index

Google has confirmed that they are rolling out a separate indexing for mobile specific users. Google explains mobile-first index like this.

“Our algorithms will eventually primarily use the mobile version of a site’s content to rank pages from that site, to understand structured data, and to show snippets from those pages in our results.”

Google also confirms that mobile-first does not mean that it won’t index the desktop version of a site. If a site doesn’t have any mobile version, Google will index and consider for rankings its desktop one. And this will be the case even if that same website has an AMP version.

Even if Google says it will index Desktop version, having a mobile website will a plus. We are expecting that Google will roll out mobile-first index completely by the end of this year.

4. More featured snippet or Position 0

Google’s quick answer helps users to get the answers to their question quickly. It saves user’s time and improves their experience.
