Samsung Bedtime VR Stories. A way for parents, to tell stories to their kids. Parents can connect to their kids over Virtual reality and VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), and can narrate a bedtime story.
Each story takes about six to seven minutes. It requires a Samsung Gear VR and smartphone for the parent and a special cardboard viewer for the child.
The app is still a prototype at this point. Samsung says it’s currently being tested with select families in the UK. The parent wears a Gear VR while the child wears a Google Cardboard headset (decorated with one of three character masks). Both enter the same virtual world. The parent then narrates the story, titled Most Wonderful Place to Be, which sees them traveling between three “magical places” while sitting on their bed.
“In our bedtime story, a parent and their child are transported to a fantastical world. With both sat on a magical bed, they go in search of “The most wonderful place to be“. It’s a journey that takes them from the bedroom to three magical places.”
“First stop is the Arctic, in the company of Jen the Penguin. Next, Dan the Dinosaur takes them to meet the rest of his family in a prehistoric world. Finally, they fly into outer space with Robot Jo, for a musical finale,” says Samsung’s press release. The entire story is also available to watch as a 360-degree YouTube video, and the app itself looks like it only works with the Galaxy S7 Edge and Gear VR headset.
Now a days, while parents are working outside, it’s hard to spend quality time with our Kids. Samsung believes, that technology should bring family together. They developed Bedtime Stories, so parents and kids, both can enjoy the stories, even if they are apart.
Using individual VR headsets, the app creates a VR story environment where parent and child can see and interact with each other, for an immersive shared experience. Bedtime VR Stories is currently being developed for full release.
