Pinterest has acquired Fleksy Team. In case you never heard of Fleksy, it is a known third-party keyboard on Android and iOS.
This is not the regular acquisition. The core Fleksy app will continue to work in future. Half of the team will join Pinterest Engineering team.
A piece from Fleksy announcement.
“Over the years, it has been our great pleasure to bring you the fastest and most reliable typing experience. Building a keyboard, especially a good keyboard, is not an easy task. In fact, it’s really hard. Without all your support and feedback, it wouldn’t have been possible. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you.”
“As a tribute to our incredible community of users, we have made the decision to open-source some of the Fleksy components that the blind and visually impaired community grew to love. We trust you’ll do great things with it.”

Fleksy is not the first keyboard app which was acquired. Microsoft acquired Swiftkey in a $250 million deal.
Fleksy team might be helpful for Pinterest. Such smart keyboards can be helpful for data capturing. For example, understanding how people are actually tapping their phones to determine which keys they are pressing.
Keyboards are now a new battlefield, as the bigger companies are jumping in. It is really helpful to understand how their customer using their devices. Where they click. It helps them to improve the user experience.
