Microsoft plans to stop manufacturing Surface 3 tablet by late 2016. The Surface 3 first launched back in May of 2015. They designed it to attract students and those who like an iPad instead of a complete laptop.
Microsoft shipped Surface 3’s with Windows 8.1 but the devices were upgradable to Windows 10. Microsoft also introduced LTE versions of the Surface 3.
Also, the company has a limited inventory for the Surface 3. Which is why some of the variants of the device are currently out of stock.
Here is the official statement about Surface 3, as provided by a spokesperson today, June 24.
Since launching Surface 3 over a year ago, we have seen strong demand and satisfaction amongst our customers. Inventory is now limited and by the end of December 2016, we will stop manufacturing Surface 3 devices.
Microsoft also recommending customers to check Microsoft Stores for stock. They don’t say when the company plans to drop manufacturing the devices.
Microsoft might be working on the Surface 4, but there is no confirmation on that. Microsoft has not yet confirmed if they are planning for a new Surface device.
This is not the first time Microsoft has stopped the production. Earlier this year, they announced, they will stop manufacturing Xbox 360.
