Google Launches News Lab To Help Journalists

Google today announced the launch of a new site called News Lab , an effort led by Steve Grove to collaborate with entrepreneurs and journalists and “build the future of news.”

This will help digital journalists with tools — like Earth, YouTube, and Maps — and data for news stories.

Google was also working with partners on programs “focused on imagining the future of news and information, as well as on empowering new voices in the media.”

News Lab site created a series of announcements that clearly shows that Google is focusing and increasing efforts to play a larger role in the world of journalism. In partnership with the social news group Storyful, the YouTube Newswire will be “a curated feed of the most newsworthy eyewitness videos of the day, which have been verified by Storyful’s team of editors,” a blog post from the Google-owned video sharing service said.

Google’s mission to ensure quality information is accessible and useful everywhere,” Grove writes, “we want to help ensure that innovation in news leads to a more informed, more democratic world.”
